Scheduled early Saturday appt so I could wait for inspection, was told minimum 3 hrs before car would be ready so I paid $18 for an Uber home. Service writer was unhappy when I told him I would replace the brakes myself and bring the car back the following week. He also claimed he would have to charge me for the reinspection, which is not true according to PA inspection laws (we should get 1 free retest within 30 days). When I replaced the brakes myself 2 days later, the lug nuts were on so tight I broke a 6 point Snap On socket, then I sheared the head off a Craftsman breaker bar and I also rounded one of the lug nuts trying to remove it, even with a 6 point socket. Before getting any of the lugs to turn, I had to use an 18" breaker bar and slide a 3' pipe over it to get the leverage. I've been doing all of my own work on numerous cars for years and have never, ever broken a tool on lugnuts. At the required torque setting of 100 ft lbs, I should not have broken any tools, nor rounded a lug nut. I can assure you I'm using proper tools, quality tools and following the proper procedures. Once the brakes were replaced, I took the car to Oneil Buick/GMC to have the safety inspection completed. I refuse to return any of my vehicles to Lafferty Chevy and I'm already telling anyone with a Chevy vehicle to NOT use Lafferty.
